55 speed radars installed in Maldonado
The Municipality of Maldonado has installed 55 new speed radars. They are now active and tickets for speeding violations are being issued since March 1st. On the first day, 550 speeding violations were detected, according to Maldonado’s Traffic and Transport Authority.
90% of the vehicles showed an intermediate speed excess (61-75 km/h), which corresponds to a fine of 4 UR (i.e. “Unidades Reajustables”, a total of more than URU$ 6.000), 7% the maximum speed excess (above 75 km/h) with a fine of 10 UR (more than URU$ 15.000) and 3% did not respect the red light.
According to Juan PĂgola, head of the Traffic and Transport Authority, the radars were installed to reduce the amount of accidents. More information on the Municipality of Maldonado’s website. (Spanish)
